Vocoded Illusion :
- The vox pad is made by vocoding the 2-note lead, which plays the high and low alternative notes. I use some automation to change the slew of the vox pad, to give a reverb-like effect, and I also automated the glide time of the lead which is vocoded. The formant matrix has a very special setting here !

2 Notes Lead

Vocoded 2 Notes Lead which gives the Vox Pad

- I vocoded the rythm track with two instances of the ELS Vocoder : one to produce the bass sound, and which gives at the time a kind of high frequency enhancer effect. The other is used to give a kind of delay effect, because I used a very low frequency for the oscillator, which is also modulated by the pitch tracker. This gives a very special and interesting stereo effect.

Dry Drums

Vocoded Drums with bass notes, also produces an high frequency enhancer effect

Vocoded Drums with a very low pitch oscillator, which is also driven by the Pitch Tracker

- For the vox lead, I also use the 2-note lead as the input of the ELS Vocoder, but with the hold pedal to freeze the formants. I released the hold pedal from time to time to change the formants, which are controlled by the 2-note lead. After that I just played the notes like a regular instrument. The formant matrix setting also plays here a great role in the sound shaping.

Play the Vocoder :
- The first rythmic pattern is the drum track vocoded with bass notes.
- The low introduction voice is made by changing the formant matrix.
- Then, for the chorus, I played with the freeze control, activated by the hold pedal. It allows to produce strange transition inside the words, or to cut or to hold some consonants (like for Eiosissssssss).
- In the first part of the first verse, the pitch is extracted from the voice, and in the second part, it is played at the keyboard. I added some vibrato and pitch bend.
- In the second verse, the original voice is mixed with the vocoded and harmonized voice.

Become True :
I use 4 instances of the ELS Vocoder in this song :
- One for the intro rythmic pattern. The congas are vocoded with the chords of the song.
- The second for the bass sound, which are the drums vocoded with a bass note. I set up the formant matrix to keep only a few ouptut bands, which gives this particular loudness color.
- The third produces the synth pad. I recorded two voices to produces "oooh-aaah" modulations which I panned right-left, and I vocoded the result with the chords.
- The last one is used for the melody in the last part of the song. The high synth lead sound produces a very particular texture.
