Dominique Blanc-Francard
E²Deesser: At last, a de-esser which works the way it should.
Dominique Blanc Francard is one of the most important French mixing engineer and producer, with a lot a French famous artists to its credits. He works as a sound engineer at the famous "Chateau d'Herouville" in France where he met and worked with many international artists like Pink Floyd, Elton John, David Bowie, Cat Stevens, T.Rex.. He recently produced the Carla Bruni-Sarkozy next album.
What did you think the first time you use the E²Deesser ?
At last, a de-esser which works the way it should. It is just brilliant.I still had not found anything else than manual corrections before getting the E²Deesser, which does the same but which is much more faster..
For you, what is the key point of the E²Deesser ?
The E2Deesser does exactly what we are doing to "ss" from years ago, i.e., separating the sibilant regions from the rest of the word, drop the level or eq of the region, cross fade and start again.
How did it changes the way you process the vocals inside a mix ?
It is just millions time faster than doing it manually. So we do not have any reason to leave bad "SSS" on a track because of time.
You can fine tune it very precisely and it is very natural sounding.
Do you use the E²Deesser on other tracks than vocals ?
We tested it on hihats, acoustic guitar squeaks with good results too.
On AirEQ :
I just finished the mastering of an album with AirEQ after trying in a few days ago. I found it excellent. I love the Air Band, which brings some freshness that I could only get with some high end analog gear.
